ABOUT
Studio Coquille is an architecture firm specialised in bridging needs of both species and people, by creating buildings and public spaces that help support local ecosystems. Their eco-centric approach to placemaking gives the framework to restore knowledge - and love - for nurturing and living with the biosphere. They integrate the needs of animals, insects, plants, and other living environments into the design principles.
The studio developed a practice that works across scales and disciplines, which enables a holistic understanding of other life forms that Humans depend on - especially with the current climate and ecological crisis. In that sense, Coquille looks into micro and macro life corridors, as the more-than-human lens fades the difference between buildings and Nature : they form one feral landscape.
Collaboration with biologists, researchers, involving municipalities and citizens is central to their work, to which is brought inspiration from local and foreign vernacular heritage, revealing other forms of beauty. The office develops new typologies that give learnings to face ecological collapse, and contribute in showing a future where more-then-human have a chance to thrive.

Coquille is a design studio founded in 2028 by architects Marion de Lingua de St Blanquat and Frederik Mads Svendsen. The collaboration began in Milan and is now established in Copenhagen. Since then, they have won open architectural competitions and keep researching ecological approaches.
Frederik is a professor at the Aarhus School of Architecture.
Coquille is an architectural practice sharing ideas through talks, exhibitions, and open-competitions.
